Benfotiamine, a fat-soluble derivative of Thiamine, is more bioavailable and physiologically active than regular Thiamine such as Thiamine Mononitrate, which is a water-soluble nutrient also known as Vitamin B1. Clinical research has shown that Benfotiamine’s unique open-ringed structure, which makes it a fat-soluble nutrient, increases its bioavailability. Benfotiamine readily passes through intestinal mucosal cells, where it is converted into physiologically active Thiamine.
Even though Benfotiamine is lipid-soluble, research shows it metabolizes quickly, raising the blood level of Thiamine Pyrophosphate (TPP), the biologically-active coenzyme of Thiamine, which then continues to metabolize in the body as usual.
